Is Carl Edwards on the Fast Track to the Sprint Cup?
Is Carl Edwards on the Fast Track to the Sprint Cup? With his third win of the season under his belt, Edwards may very well be on his way to a Sprint Cup Victory. That is, if no one can stop him.
With the new points totals released, Jeff Burton is leading the pack with Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch right on his tail. But where is Edwards? He’s in ninth. Undoubtedly, the points revoked following the infraction penalty earlier this season at Las Vegas are haunting him week after week on the leader board. With 184 point separating Edwards and Burton and a whole lot of racing to go, it seems that Edwards could easily catch him with some repeat performances.
But let’s not forget that this is NASCAR. Everything can change in the blink of an eye on the track and in the points. Edwards lost 100 points for the penalty including 10 bonus points. In truth, Edwards’ performance isn’t exactly surprising. He was ranked 4th coming into this season and his patented victory flip have made him a fan favorite. With talented teammates like Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle, the Roush Fenway Racing team is poised to continue its positive run. With Biffle currently in 5th overall and Kenseth in 13th, there’s no telling what the rest of the season may hold.
