Hendrick Motorsports Team Background: HMS was founded in 1984 as an off-shoot to the already successful Hendrick Automotive Group in 1976. The HAG was a single dealership in Bennettsville, South Carolina and has now grown to over 80 franchises in 10 states. Hendrick himself raised in the Winston Cup in both 1987 and 1988, but transmission issues kept him to 33 rd place in ’87. He placed 15 th in ’88. Without a doubt, when it comes to NASCAR and Motorsports, HMS has the dream team. With Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson alone, HMS earned 23 victories in the last two years. Now, with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. coming on board from Dale Earnhardt Inc, the trifecta is complete. But it doesn’t stop there. Casey Mears is also in the mix. With one of the most successful teams on the track, as well as one of the most recognized teams, HMS stands as a force to be reckoned to with. For 24 years, HMS has been at or near the front of the pack. They are only the second team in NASCAR history to take 150 Cup victories. Even with a tragedy like the airplane crash that killed 10 people associated with Hendrick Motorsports in October 2004, the HMS team has always charged ahead. They are a progressive team, pushing both their cars and their drivers to the limit, but putting intelligence ahead of it all. Their drivers and their crew chiefs are always in sync and they are predicted to be the number one team again this year.
