Roush Fenway Racing Team Background: Owner Jack Roush always had a love of racing. It all started with his drag racing interest that was sparked while working at Ford in 1964 and resulted in Jack joining the “Fastbacks,” a group of fellow drag racing enthusiasts. Fast was never fast enough for Jack, who has a Master’s degree in Scientific Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. He continued to experiment in other forms of racing, even after the Fastbacks disbanded in 1970. Roush also worked for Chrysler for one year starting in 1970 before he left to start his own engineering business. In 1978, Roush expanded his repertoire from solely drag racing to the NHRA Pro Stock division and competed in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) road racing series, ultimately winning titles left and right. Roush Racing was founded in 1988 and has gone on to win 24 National Titles. Early drivers for the team included Tommy Kendall, Wally Dallenbach, Jr., Scott Pruett, and Willy T. Ribbs and the team has used Ford vehicles exclusively from the start. John W. Henry, a trading advisor, bought 50% stake in Roush Racing in 2007 and is considered a co-owner. Henry is also the owner of the Boston Red Sox.
